Musée des Confluences Lyon France

The name of this museum defines by its location. The confluence of both rivers, Rhône and Saône is a symbolic place in Lyon which underlines with this museum the historical background of Science, Economy and Industry. The building is also a symbol for the bridge between the past and the future.

In 2001, the Austrian architectural design studio Coop Himmelb(l)au won the tender for designing the  museum. The surreal-futuristic building looks like a crystal cloud leaving the observer enough space for interpretation. The sunblinds and air flow elements made of perforated 3mm stainless steel were realized in cooperation with Dillinger Fabrik gelochter Bleche, one of Europe’s leading partners for outdoor facades of perforated sheets and panels.

After more than one decade of planning and building, one of Lyons biggest projects was finished and got ceremoniously opened. Not less than 2 millions of exhibited items cover the high demand to convey global, mainly scientific knowledge to the visitors.
